Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety is a feeling of being physically or mentally angry or feeling unease. The teens experience it when they faced with a stressful situation, like an interview, before an exam, or during a worrying time such as illness. It is normal to feel anxious when facing something difficult or dangerous and mild anxiety can be a positive and useful experience. The symptoms of anxiety are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and shortness of breath, frequent urination, rapid heartbeat, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, tightness or pain in chest or dizziness. Psychological symptoms through anxiety include insomnia, inability to concentrate, feeling unreal, inerrability or anger, fear of madness and not in control of actions.

The treatment can be done in three groups. Those are mental health therapy, alternative medicine and prescription medications.

1.Mental health therapy:

The mental health therapy uses some basic principles. First they identify about the thought of teenager. Then they try to understand what they believe for that thought which rooted them towards anxiety. After that they find evidence to counteract current, negative core beliefs and also find evidence to create adaptive coping techniques. After that they use these coping techniques whenever anxiety or stress presents themselves.

2.Alternative medicines:

Alternative medicines are well option use in relief for those who experience anxiety or stress on a consistent basis. Initially the market of alternative medicine was not so popular but over the last 10 years it has increased by over 300%. This is due to the use of herbal alternatives that can provide real relief without the negative side effects. These herbal alternatives are often associated with prescription medications. Natural alternatives are not permanent treatment options for anxiety related disorder, though they can provide short and long-term benefit. Some of the herbal alternatives are valerian root, passion flower, kava, ashwaghanda roots and vitamins.

3.Prescription medications:

Today many of the prescription medications are used in which Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Effexor and Wellbutrin are the most popular treatment options. Mostly prescription drugs are used by teenagers to help them find relief from the many different types of anxiety. Prescription medications also have some drawbacks like severe side effects and withdrawal symptoms. In addition, they are often no more effective than placebo or natural alternatives when tested head-to-head in clinical studies. The prescriptions do not address the underlying causes of chemical imbalance like mental health therapy. The main reasons for anxiety are past experiences, daily stresses and negative thoughts. Anxiety treatment?
I suffer from anxiety caused by stress at work. Actually I developed it a couple of years ago and it recently came back full force after a career change. It’s affecting my blood pressure I can tell, because I feel most of the time like I’m in a heightened anxiety state (tightened chest) on the verge of an attack, whether I’m at work or not.

I’ve read about beta blockers being used for anxiety but when I asked a question about them last night people said that’s not what I should talk to my MD about. Other people said it is. I’m confused. What’s the best treatment for an anxiety disorder like this?
Actually I can tell my blood pressure is affected because I can no longer drink coffee or soda without getting dizzy and sometimes getting blurry vision. I’m calling to make an appointment with my MD today- I just want to know what to talk to him about and what suggestions I can make that he might not think of.

I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder about a year ago.

I was placed on lexapro for 6 months and did really well. I started to feel better almost a week after starting the medication.

The side effects are pretty nasty though. In my case, the lexapro made me really stiff, i had muscle aches, head aches and nausea. However, I felt better emotionally and in about 3 weeks the effects virtually disappeared.

Now, i’m starting to wonder if dealing with the anxiety is better suited for therapy. Although the medication helps significantly, I seem to feel that i’ve become really dependant on it. I’ve been back on it for about 1 month.

In my opinion, dealing with anxiety calls for medication to help you re-focus your energy and therapy to really treat the underlying cause of the anxiety in the first place.

I haven’t actually heard of beta blockers being used to treat anxiety, so I can’t comment on that.

You should definitely have your blood pressure checked and take steps right away to get it under control. Diet and exercise are the most important aspects. Reduce your caffeine, sugar and sodium intake as much as possible.

I would suggest trying some natural treatments for the anxiety and stress first. Breathing exercises, muscle relaxation exercises, visualization and thought modification are a few of the more common natural cures for anxiety attacks.

All anti-depressants work different for different people. Someone said don’t use Effexor however, it is one of the better ones. I only stopped it because of weight gain. I have had anxiety for years and depression I have taken Xanax for years and yes I know they are addicting but I use them as prescribed and they keep me where I need to be mentally, I have used several anti-depressants. I have been on Wellbutrin for quite awhile now and it balances me quite well. Therapy also helps. Talk to your Dr. about your symptoms and get some help.
